In the winter of 2001 I set out to begin a sketch book that would be the basis for a series of artwork that would be about family life, parenting and specifically about the tough side of being a mother. As I explored with pen and ink (a very cathartic experience) it became clear to me that I had overwhelming, often painful, emotions to express. I have a deep desire to relate to other parents on the subject of how our hearts are affected by the experience of giving birth and raising children. I really believe art is a language that can be more eloquent than words. My ultimate goal is to put together a mixed media show of work that will be powerful in expression. These images are a sampling of the drawings from my Mothers Heart sketchbook. Some of these pieces will be translated into mosaic; mixed media paintings and some will be finished pen and ink drawings. Click hear to read Mother's Heart Essay |
